How does a pelletizing plant work?
Manure pelletizing is a straightforward, five-step process:
- Litter is transported to pelletizer in leak-resistant containers.
- Raw materials are unloaded in a fully enclosed storage area, where a negative-air system prevents dust and odors from escaping into the environment.
- The litter is then loaded into a dryer that reaches a temperature of 225°F degrees and pasteurizes the litter to eradiate bacteria and weed seeds.
- From the dryer, a hammer mill refines the litter to a sand texture and pushes the granules into a pellet mill.
- The pellets are then cooled, tested for quality and stored until distribution.
